Verdict up front: Mining X is published under the developer name “VICE Media” — the name of a real, well-known media company with no cloud-mining business. The app has not been updated since October 2025. Treat the developer line as unverified and do not pay anything inside it.
Key facts — checked 23 September 2026
App: Mining X · Package: com.xcloud.mining · Developer line: “VICE Media” · Store: Google Play — 4.7★, 9.69K reviews, 100K+ installs · Monetisation: Contains ads · Category: Finance · Last updated: 19 October 2025 — eleven months ago
A name doing work it has not earned
The developer field on this listing reads VICE Media. That is the name of a real international publisher — magazines, documentaries, a news operation. It is not a cloud-mining company, and there is nothing in this listing, in the app’s description or in any public announcement connecting it to this product.
Google Play’s developer name field is free text. A publisher types what they like into it; verification applies to the account, not to whether the name belongs to anyone else. So the line carries the weight of a recognised brand without any of the checks that brand would normally have to pass.
We are not alleging the real company is behind this app. The point is narrower and more useful to you: a developer name is not evidence of anything, and here is an app where the name alone would mislead a reasonable person.
⚠ Verified evidence — checked 23 September 2026
- The Play Store developer line reads “VICE Media”, the name of an established international media company.
- That company is a publisher. It does not sell cloud mining, and nothing in the listing connects the two.
- The app was last updated 19 October 2025 — eleven months before this check.
- It promises you can “earn Bitcoin, Ethereum… without expensive hardware” — including a network that cannot be mined.
- It holds 4.7 stars from 9.69K reviews on 100K+ installs while naming no pool, facility or company registration.
Eleven months without an update
Last updated 19 October 2025. For an app that claims to manage cryptocurrency balances, that gap matters in two ways. It means no security patches through a period in which Android itself has moved on, and it means no one is minding the product. Financial apps under active development ship every few weeks.
“Earn Bitcoin, Ethereum… without expensive hardware”
Half of that is impossible. Ethereum has not been mineable since the Merge in September 2022. An app still advertising Ethereum mining in 2026 is either running a simulation or describing a service the network does not provide. The Bitcoin half is possible in principle — real cloud mining exists — but only from operators who publish a facility, a pool and a contract. This one publishes none.
The rating
4.7 stars from 9,690 reviews across 100,000+ installs looks solid, and on a stale, unverifiable listing it is exactly the signal that does the persuading. Ratings measure how an app was received, not whether it pays out.
Check it in one minute
Tap the developer name on any Play listing and see what else they publish. Then check the last-updated date. A financial app untouched for eleven months is not being maintained.
Our view: Mining X trades on a borrowed media-company name, has been stale since October 2025, and sells mining of a network that cannot be mined. Do not pay anything inside it.
