Fake Binance Emails and Texts: How to Check

Fake Binance Emails and Texts: How to Check

A message says your Binance account has been locked, or that a withdrawal to an unknown address is pending. It has the logo, the colours and an urgent button. Before you click anything, take sixty seconds to check it. Fake Binance emails and texts are one of the most common ways crypto is stolen.

What fake Binance messages look like

Email Look alike sender such as binance-support or binance.security with extra words
SMS A short link and a warning about an unauthorised login
Phone call A support agent asking you to confirm a code
Telegram or WhatsApp A helpful agent who reached out after you posted a question
Social media Giveaways, airdrops and doubling offers

Six red flags

  • ✗ Urgent threat to close or freeze your account
  • ✗ A link that is not exactly binance.com
  • ✗ A request for your password, 2FA code or seed phrase
  • ✗ A request to move funds to a new safe wallet
  • ✗ Spelling mistakes or odd grammar
  • ✗ No anti phishing code in an email

Set up your protection now

In your Binance security settings you can set an anti phishing code. Every genuine email from Binance will then include it. Turn on withdrawal address whitelisting and use an authenticator app instead of SMS. These three steps stop most phishing attacks from turning into losses.

If you already clicked

  1. Change your Binance password from the official app.
  2. Reset two factor authentication.
  3. Check for new API keys, withdrawal addresses or devices and remove any you do not recognise.
  4. Contact Binance through the in app support chat.
  5. Run a security scan on your device.

If funds were sent

Write down the receiving wallet address and the transaction hash. Report the theft to the police and a fraud centre such as the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) or Action Fraud. Report the fake message to Binance and to your mobile network or email provider. Then get your case reviewed so the funds can be traced.

Why criminals copy Binance

Big brands have millions of users, so a fake message sent at random will reach many real customers. The criminals behind these campaigns are not Binance and have no link to it. The same tricks are used with the names of other exchanges, wallets and banks, so the habits in this guide protect you everywhere.

Teach the people around you

Older relatives and new crypto users are frequent targets. Show them how to check a link on Binance Verify and how the anti phishing code works. Two minutes of help can save someone a lot of money.

Does Binance send SMS messages?

Treat any SMS that asks you to act or click as suspicious, and check your account in the app instead.

Can Binance get my funds back?

Blockchain transfers cannot be reversed, but receiving addresses can be flagged and traced.

Fake Binance pages that look real

Phishing pages copy the real login screen down to the last pixel. The only difference may be one letter in the address, an extra word such as login or verify, or a different ending such as .net or .co. Once you type your email, password and code, the criminals log in to your real account in seconds. Using a saved bookmark or the official app removes this risk almost completely.

The sixty second check

  1. Do not click any link or call any number in the message.
  2. Open the official Binance app or type the address yourself.
  3. Check the sender, link, phone number or handle on Binance Verify.
  4. Look for your anti phishing code in the email. If it is missing, it is fake.
  5. If in doubt, delete the message and check your account directly.

fake Binance email: Remember this

  • Never click links in unexpected Binance messages.
  • Use the anti phishing code and Binance Verify.
  • Bookmark the real site or use the official app.
  • If you clicked, change passwords and reset 2FA now.
  • Report fake messages to Binance and your provider.
